Fall 2017 PROMISE Students
Makenzie Elliott, McDowell High 2017
“I’m thrilled to be a part of Project PROMISE because I feel that it will help me better decide on a future career. I also believe that it will be a great learning experience. In my free time, I like to spend time with family and friends as well as volunteer. I mostly volunteer at my church and with the American Red Cross”.
Rhionna Harris, McDowell High 2017
Hi! I am Rhionna Harris and I am part of the 2017 project PROMISE internship. I absolutely love science and the medical field. I wanted to be a part of Project PROMISE to gain experience and a closer look into many medical professions. I have volunteered many hours because I love helping others and gaining experience. In my free time I like to work on cars with my family and of course, be lazy.
Hanna Atkins, McDowell High 2017
I am a senior at McDowell High School. After taking a Nurse Aide class I discovered that I enjoy taking care of people and want to pursue a degree in nursing with the goal of one day becoming a Nurse Practitioner. Alongside CNA I am currently enrolled in the EMT program at McDowell High School and a member of McDowell County Rescue Squad. When I first heard about Project Promise I knew it was a program I wanted to be apart of. I feel that having the opportunity to shadow and learn about a variety of health care professions will not only help to further affirm my career goals but also see first hand the specialties I really enjoy and would one day want to work in.
Landry Phillips, Tri-County Christian School 2017
A Senior at Tri-County Christian school, Landry has a passion for helping others and a desire to pursue a degree in healthcare. Landry hopes to return to Western North Carolina upon graduating, to help the people in his own community. Landry has also expressed an interest in Mission work, after completing graduation.
